It is important to have puppies in a group class while they are still very young! According to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (click here to read their position statement), early socialization to other dogs and people is the single most important step you can take for your puppy's future good behavior. Recent studies indicate that the "window of opportunity" for socialization is between 4 and 12 weeks. The window rapidly closes between 12 and 16 weeks. Puppies and dogs can of course still learn and adapt at any age, but after 16 weeks, socialization takes a lot more time and effort. Poor socialization is a major cause of dogs eventually developing behavior problems and being surrendered to shelters.

We hold inexpensive ($20) and short (4 week) puppy courses to enable as many people as possible to enter their puppies in class during that critical socialization period. Classes may fill early--so don't delay. You can enroll your puppy before you even obtain him/her, so that you are ready to come to class. You are encouraged to take multiple sessions of Puppy Class until the age of 6 months.

This class will include a generous amount of supervised playtime to help your puppy become a polite member of the doggie social scene. We will also cover some basic obedience, potty training and any other topics relevant to the puppies enrolled in class. In Puppy Class, you and your puppy can practice training and self-control in the presence of other dogs and people. An experienced instructor will help you identify and solve issues before they become habits. This class is open to puppies 8 weeks through 6 months of age.

November 8, 15, 22, and December 6 (no class November 29, Thanksgiving weekend)
