Judy Thorne, PhD

For Judy, the partnership between handler and dog is beautiful to watch. She truly cares about people and their dogs and is thrilled when they work together. With a PhD in Educational Psychology (Learning Theory), Judy has been training people and dogs for over 30 years.

Judy currently volunteers at Durham APS. She uses her training skills to help make the shelter dogs more adoptable. In addition to temperament testing, Judy teaches the rambunctious dogs to politely greet potential adopters. She teaches the timid dogs that interacting with people can be a wonderful thing.

Judy continues her dog training education through workshops and seminars. She trains her own dogs in Rally-Obedience, Freestyle and Agility.

One of Judy's favorite books is "Animals in Translation" by Temple Grandin. The phrase her students are most likely to hear is, "Practice every day."
